Avatar Medical, an award-winning company advancing medical imaging from visualization to clinical understanding, today announced CE Marking for Avatar Medical Vision, its software platform to visualize CT and MR images in 3D and VR for surgical planning and intervention, enabling commercialization in Europe.
The announcement builds on Avatar Medical's initial CE marking for Avatar Medical Vision in March 2025 and represents another milestone in the company's mission to enable more natural clinical interaction, allowing physicians and patients to communicate face-to-face without the barrier of headsets, while preserving the depth perception needed to understand complex anatomy. By integrating Avatar Medical Vision software with the Barco Eonis 3D display, the Eonis Vision solution transforms standard CT and MRI scans into intuitive, patient-specific 3D visualizations that can be viewed instantly without segmentation, headsets, or complex hardware configurations. With a single click, clinicians can present lifelike, interactive 3D visualizations that fit seamlessly into existing clinical workflows while creating a more engaging consultation experience.
Avatar Medical selected Barco as a partner for the superior quality and clinical performance of its display technology, as well as its established footprint in medical imaging and radiology, where reliability and consistency are critical. The use of CE-marked display systems further ensures stability in real-world clinical environments. Designed for imaging-intensive specialties such as neurosurgery, ENT, orthopedics, oncology, and interventional radiology, the platform enables physicians to move beyond “flat” 3D image interpretation and work directly with patient-specific anatomy in three dimensions, enhancing surgical planning and intraoperative reference without disrupting existing workflows.
"Our vision has always been to make advanced medical visualization accessible wherever physicians and patients have important conversations," said Elodie Litzler, Deputy CEO and co-founder of Avatar Medical. "This latest CE marking is another important step toward that goal. The Eonis Vision solution makes immersive 3D visualization simple with no headsets, no cables, just one click. This allows physicians to focus on helping patients understand their condition rather than the technology itself."
The technology is currently being evaluated through the pilot program “Tiers Lieux d’Expérimentation en santé” SANTINEL led by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), one of Europe's leading academic hospital systems.
"Helping patients and families understand complex spinal conditions is one of the most important parts of the consultation," said Pr. Brice Ilharreborde, Department of Pediatric Orthopedics, Robert Debré Hospital, AP-HP, University of Paris Cité. "The Eonis Vision solution gives us an entirely new way to explain anatomy using each patient's own medical images, supporting clearer communication and more meaningful shared decision-making."
Avatar Medical Vision is designed for use throughout the patient care pathway, including patient consultations, multidisciplinary team meetings, surgical planning, and intraoperative visualization support. With regulatory clearances now in both Europe and the United States, Avatar Medical continues to expand access to immersive medical imaging while helping healthcare organizations improve patient understanding, engagement, and communication.
The company will be showcasing its solution, along with Barco, at the Journées Francophones de Radiologie Conference (JFR 2026) this week in Paris, at Barco’s booth #226b.
